Levi's 501

As was the case for Coca-Cola and Ray Ban, the Levi's 501 quickly became a real symbol of the 20th century, something beyond time and part of pop culture legends. The first pair of jeans ever saw light in 1873, meeting the demands of gold miners that needed a sturdy yet convenient for working all day long. The 501 is a 5-pocket pant equipped with solid denim texture reinforced by metal rivets, placed on sensitive points like pockets and stitchings. Each pair features the signature arcuate stitching on its back pocket and the unmistakable Red Tab, a statement label that marks the difference between original items and their copies. We should thank Levi's 501 and their unmatched versatility for spreading men's jeans after WWII. Basically, Levi's bottoms had played a different role in every decade they've been through. In the late '50s they were regarded as a menswear staple thanks to James Dean, then turned into a social statement during '60s protests and eventually became a hippie mainstay, customized to create the first ripped jeans ever. Tie-dye techniques and stone washed treatments gave a whole new dimension to long bottoms, boosting the emergence of stained and discolored jeans. Given the rise of high-waisted pants like this, the Cali-based label was pushed to place artificial wear patterns on many 501 iterations, creating that wornout effect that's typical of the beloved Levi's Vintage line. Cozy, tough and always on point as it is, jeans still remains the ultimate king of menswear: head to Graffitishop and grab your next pair of Levi's!
