Di Salvo

Di Salvo Industrial Design is the latest farsighted manifestation of the always-moving Giorgio Di Salvo, declining his radical design process to the conception of design artifacts and furniture, after his many-sided productions spanning from clothing to sound via visual arts. SPECTRUM and Giorgio belong to the same inner-city landscape, collaborating since the early years and the designer’s first incursions in the streetwear scene. Read more…

Giorgio Di Salvo’s debuting label was VNGRD, launched in 2005, under which the designer started his experimentations from massively printed t-shirts up to waterproof tape-seamed hardshells, producing some cutting-edge pieces combining for the first time authentic streetwear staples with outdoor-aimed features, anticipating the later gorpcore speculations. One of VNGRD’s early designs was the Octopus in a series of re-prints that led to the foundation of a new label centered on only that graphic and its following iterations: Octopus. As stated in Rizzoli New York VNGRD monography book, edited in collaboration with Iuter, these first collections caught the attention of Kanye West who enrolled him in the never released first collection of his label Pastelle. His work gained global recognition when Marcelo Burlon assigned him the creative direction of County of Milan, where architectonally-costruncted all-over prints were applied to t-shirts and crewneck till the point the rapper Pusha T commissioned Giorgio his capsule collection. After this experience, Giorgio launched his own brand, United Standard, starting from an early collection of short sleeves t-shirts with contrast triple stitch – the same you can find on a carpenter work pant –, then applied on a series of black sweatshirts. The brand grew til its debut during Milan Fashion Week, where collaborators and longtime friends of the founder walked on the catwalk wearing iconic pieces like the appositely designed Retrosuperfuture sunglasses and the Dyneema waterproof tuxedo, plus a series of excellent collaborations depicting the contemporary streetwear environment, from illustrious creative directors to graffiti writers and upcoming local personalities, as Misha from P.A.M. and Virgil Abloh. After Giorgio’s extensive work in the fashion industry, he expanded his activities to other fields, one above all: the music. His music productions under the moniker of Advanced Audio Research were released by the Milanese Haunter Records, which also enlists VISIO, who SPECTRUM featured for his ‘Youth Grows Forever’ project. His commitment to radical projectual techniques, always motivated to give back the highest quality standards, moved him to launch a new industrial design label as an incubator for his latest experimentations.
