The history of Columbia Sportswear adheres to few other labels founded after World War II. A young married couple, Paul and Maria Lamgrom, emigrates from Germany and takes over a hats fabric. They started producing outerwear and sportswear later in the ‘60s, including waterproof jackets and a wide selection of mountain-ready accessories. The Columbia denomination comes from the homonymous river which is just few kilometers aways from the Portland headquarter.<!--split--> The brand started being recognized for skiwear and alpine equipment in the late ‘80s, crafting high-quality tech jackets that remain light and breathable. A major breakthrough moment comes with the launch of the Bugaboo jacket, the first model provided with a removable zip-in/zip-out lining. The core of Columbia lifestyle offering includes pile fleeces, durable shell jackets and anorak styles which blend its outdoor knowledge with patterns and graphics inspired to vintage skiwear.
