Founded in Tokyo in 1946, Casiois a multinational electronics manufacturing company, world leader of digital LCD watches. The brand was born from the passion for electronics developed during the years of World War II by Tadao Kashio and his three younger brothers, who after the war began to work on electronic calculators, soon introducing a fundamental innovation: a new, 10-key number pad, so the Kashio brothers were able to reduce the calculator size and to release the first "personal calculator". The worldwide success of this innovation gave Casio the ability to expand its range of electronic products for everyday use, and by the 70s the brand introduced another milestone in its history: the wristwatches. Casio was one of the earliest manufacturers of quartz watches, both digital and analog, as well as the first to introduce innovative and distinctive features for the time like calendar, stopwatch and backlight. During the 80s, the technological evolution brought by models such as the CA-53, the first watch with calculator, and the aesthetics of classic styles such as the A159 and the A168, the first with a metallic case and strap, made Casio the world leader of digital watches, pushing the brand to keep on developing a huge collection of styles with distinctive and unreleased features. Despite technological innovation and fashion through the years, today those first Casio watches remain some of the most beloved digital watches around, and some of the most representative and iconic silhouette from the 80s and 90s.
