The history of the Asics Gel Kayano starts in 1993, when they take up the market by the name of Kayano Trainer, a running sneaker conceived for sustained efforts. Boasting a structure inspired to the heavy armour of the stag beetle and designed by Toshikazu Kayano, the style mixes Asics’ signature Gel Technology with solid structural elements, hence creating a runner that’s durable and lightweight in equal part. But Asics didn’t stick to the OG:every year a new Gel Kayano raise up to keep pushing technical boundaries, while staying true to the sneaker’s running roots. If the first Gel Kayano introduced a Coolmax upper with Gel encapsulated in the midsole, the recently reissued Gel Kayano 5 adds a Duomax system that reduces stress when runners roll their feet, plus a Gel bladder visible sideways. Its vintage manner cannot avoid a series of ‘90s colors squeezed into a real heritage palette. Standout details include a crossed stripes trimming on both sides, while the classic “a” in italics adorn tongue and heel. More than 20 years after their debut, the Gel Kayano still remain a bestseller running sneaker - try a pair on Graffitishop and find out why.
