Arc’teryx named Alpha the jacket to refer to its use in alpinism and climbing in the toughest conditions, eased by its lightweight and minimal construction. The Alpha Jacket represents a pivotal item for the Canadian brand, the turning point for its well-proven collaboration with GORE-TEX®. The joint venture between Arc’teryx and the waterproof fabric supplier started in 1995 when the need for a durable but impermeable outer layer arose, tested and refined till its launch in the market in 1998. Arc’teryx became the first GORE-TEX® licensed brand to produce apparel. The high-standard hardshell represents an ever-changing experiment, constantly subjected to the latest technical innovations, aimed to reduce the weight but assuring roughness combined with breathability. In 2012 the jacket saw the first meaningful improvement with the launch of GORE-TEX® Pro, which was diversified by the previous material used to introduce a third layer, a robust inner lining resulting in less wear and tear on the membrane. Arc’teryx Alpha Jacket is the highest accomplishment for outdoor jackets, representing a more efficient purpose-driven garment compared to the Beta series which is designed for a cross-utilization between the performance and the lifestyle. Both the Alpha and Beta Jacket, in their LT, AR, and SV iterations come with no insulation, to be worn with a padded jacket underneath like the well-received Arc’teryx Atom.
